Technical Consultation on Climate Change and Water Sector Vulnerability in Telangana

GIZ in association with EPTRI, Government of Telangana organized a technical consultation on Climate Change and Water Sector Vulnerability in Telangana on 12 October 2017 in Hyderabad. The objective of the consultation was to share the observations and findings of the water sector climate change impact & vulnerability assessment conducted for the State of Telangana as part of CCA-RAI project. The consultation was attended by a range of stakeholders that included thematic experts/ academicians from the State; technical experts from various line departments, NGOs, and research institutes/ universities.

GIZ as part of Climate Change Adaptation in Rural Areas of India (CCA RAI) is developing a technical document on “Addressing Climate Change in the Water Sector in India” with special focus on assessing climate change impact and vulnerability in the water resources due to climate change and providing an evidence base for designing appropriate adaptation strategies for water sector in CCA-RAI partner States of Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh. Accordingly, the study involved climate data analysis for the state of Telangana; Climate change impact assessment under present and future climate scenario; and finally presents current and projected vulnerability profile at the district level through an interactive map.

The Findings of the study have been incorporated by EPTRI in the State specific Action Plan for Water Sector (being prepared under National Water Mission) for generating a range of adaptation options. A presentation on the same was also made by EPTRI at the workshop.
